When 45-year-old widowed munitions expert Erwan (François Damiens) discovers by accident that the man who raised him isn’t his real dad, he begins a search for his biological father. He soon locates the mischievous 70-something Joseph (Le Havre’s André Wilms), whom his mother knew briefly. Erwan falls not only for his charm, but that of the impetuous Anna (Cécile de France, also in Fanny’s Journey), who has ties to them both. Conflicting familial loyalties soon become further compounded by the pregnancy of his own daughter Juliette, who defiantly refuses to name the father...
The Festival has been honoured to present the International Premieres of some superb French jewels in past events, such as The Bélier Family and Rosalie Blum, and 2017 is no exception, marking the world debut of writer-director Carine Tardieu’s wonderfully funny Just to be Sure.
The two big names of Belgian cinema, François Damiens (The Bélier Family – Festival 2015) and Cécile de France (La Belle Saison – Festival 2016) star for the first time in a French film together. Offering a terrific showcase for her brilliant ensemble, Tardieu (The Dandelions – Festival 2013) sets this entertaining and moving film against the backdrop of the wild Brittany coast in Northern France.
